چکیده
ABSTRACT We observed 20 Palomar–Green quasars at low redshift (z < 0.5) with total flux density >1 mJy, including four radio-loud (RLQs) and 16 radio-quiet (RQQs), using the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) 5 GHz. 10 RQQs are clearly detected in VLBA images, a compact radio core is identified eight of them, indicating prevalence active galactic nucleus (AGN)-related emission this flux-density-limited RQQ sample. Submillimetre Observations of a Sample of Broad Absorption Line Quasars
The broad absorption line (BAL) features seen in a small fraction of quasar optical/UV spectra are attributed to bulk outflows away from the quasar core. Observational evidence suggests that dust plays a key role in these systems, although whether the inferred dust properties are a signature of orientation effects or whether they are indicative of an evolutionary sequence remains an outstanding...
متن کاملRelativistic parsec–scale jets: I. Particle acceleration
We develop a theory of particle acceleration inside relativistic rotating electron-positron force–free jets with spiral magnetic fields. We considered perturbation of the stationary magnetic field structure and found that acceleration takes place in the regions where the Alfvén resonant condition with the eigenmodes in the jet is fulfilled, i.e. where the local Alfvén speed is equal to the phas...
متن کاملParsec-scale Circular Polarization Observations of 40 Blazars
We present circular polarization results from a 5 GHz survey of the parsec-scale polarization properties of 40 AGN made with the VLBA. We find 11 circular polarization detections at the 3σ level or higher. This nearly quadruples the number of sources detected in circular polarization at VLBI resolution. We find no correlation between fractional linear and circular polarization across our sample...
متن کاملThe radio source OQ208: parsec-scale morphology and spectral properties
We present results from global VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometry) observations at 5 GHz of the radio source OQ208. The milliarcsecond (mas) morphology of the radio emission is described by an asymmetric compact double structure with a flux density ratio between the two components of about 10:1, and a projected total size of ∼ 7 mas (i.e. ∼ 7 pc). Both components are resolved by the presen...
متن کاملParsec-scale properties of GHz-Peaked Spectrum sources from 2.3 and 8.6 GHz VLBI surveys
We investigate the sample of 213 GPS sources selected from simultaneous multi-frequency 1– 22 GHz observations obtained with RATAN–600 radio telescope. We use publicly available data to characterize parsec-scale structure of the selected sources. Among them we found 121 core dominated sources, 76 Compact Symmetric Object (CSO) candidates (24 of them are highly probable), 16 sources have complex...
